Fort Worth native Morgan Matthews’ star is shining bright now that two Grammy Award-winning artists have hopped on his song.

Alicia Keys’ latest sultry single “Show Me Love,” featuring Miguel, was released in September. Matthews, 29, produced the song nearly two and a half years ago for popular R&B singer and rapper Tory Lanez. Lanez, who frequently collaborates and writes for artists, would send Matthews concepts for songs, and Matthews would write music for him and send it back.

Matthews and Lanez were connected through an engineer Lanez used who heard a song Matthews wrote.

The song was passed around, eventually getting to Keys, who got Miguel involved in the project. Matthews says he was speechless when he heard the finished product and was surprised that a legend like Keys used his music. He expressed an admiration for Miguel and his musicianship as well.

“I don’t know why I wasn’t just song number 7 on the album,” Matthews says, still shocked about the hit single.

Matthews says he has been writing songs for a long time and always had music around him while he was growing up, with family members who play music in churches and bands. He’s a multi-instrumentalist, playing the guitar, bass and keyboard, as well as using digital tools throughout the songwriting process.

Matthews hopes to continue writing music and says he also works in other genres. He has also worked with rapper Gunna and singer Kiiara.

Keys’ video for “Show Me Love” features actors Michael B. Jordan and Zoe Saldana. To watch it, look below.
